Wildsong is Our Exploration of Right Relationship With Nature
We believe that when in right relationship, active human engagement with Nature nourishes us and our fellow beings. Just as prairie grass is healthier when grazed by buffalo and oak forests flourish when squirrels both eat and plant their acorns, so will our home planet flourish and express herself more fully when humans reclaim our sacred role within the natural order – as lover, student, and steward of the Earth.
But we did not know how. Growing up and living as consumers in cities, our lives were focused on school, career, and the various artificial games of modern human society. We were oblivious to the impact our choices had on the Earth and the infinite ways her resources support us every day. We were disconnected from the realities of Nature–the peace of growing grass, the joy of morning birdsong, the sacred sorrow of a mother deer whose fawn is taken by coyotes. And disconnected from the knowledge and toil it takes to care for land and feed ourselves.
So… how do we reconnect to the magic that nourishes and sustains us? We have chosen to do the work to heal our disconnection from the impact of our personal choices, and put our actions behind our deep appreciation of Mother Earth. We learn and draw from the wisdom of indigenous cultures, the innovations of modern science, and most of all from our own direct experience listening and working with the land, and tuning in to our own inner voice.
We are privileged to practice this at Wildsong: 150 acres of fields, forests, marsh, streams and ponds that are home to deer, beaver, coyote, bear, turkey, owls, red-tail hawks, bald eagles, butterflies, bumblebees, wasps, flies, earthworms, fungi, conifers, deciduous trees, wild roses, wild strawberries, blueberry bushes, hummingbirds, cattails, sunfish, bass, field mice…. This land and these beings are our partners on this journey, their whisperings our guiding lights.
Our listening to the land has shown us two paths that intertwine: We are cultivating our Enchanted Food Forest to reorient how we feed ourselves by thriving together with the land and our fellow Earthlings. And our Retreat Center invites other humans to come and connect with the magic of this land, so that we can all be supported in our healing and wholing journeys toward right relationship with our Nature and our Selves.
If this resonates with you, please keep in touch via our newsletter! We send very few emails, and will respect your time and attention as much as we respect our own.
